Would you like to know God personally?
How can you start a relationship with God? Do you need to dedicate yourself to doing good deeds or becoming a better person for God to accept you?
You might be surprised to learn that none of those things are the answer. God has clearly shown us in the Bible how we can know Him.
Here are some simple truths to help you understand how you can begin a personal relationship with God today through Jesus Christ.
TRUTH 1
God loves you and has an amazing purpose for your life.
GOD'S LOVE
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).
GOD'S PLAN
Jesus said, “I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly” (John 10:10) — that is, that life will be truly fulfilling.
Why don’t most people experience the abundant life?
The reason is because…
TRUTH 2
All of us have sinned, and our sin separates us from God.
WE ARE SINFUL
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
God created us to have a close relationship with Him, but our own stubborn desire to follow our own path has broken that connection. This tendency to resist God—whether through outright rebellion or quiet disregard—is what the Bible refers to as sin.
WE ARE SEPARATED
"The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23)
This picture shows that God is holy while we are sinful, and a vast gap exists between us. People often try to bridge this gap and reach God or the abundant life through their own efforts—like living a good life, following philosophies, or practicing religion—but these attempts always fall short.
The third truth reveals the only way to close this gap...
TRUTH 3
Is through Jesus Christ - God's only solution for our sin. Through Him, we can understand and experience God's love and His purpose for our lives.
JESUS DIED IN OUR PLACE
"God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD
"Christ died for our sins... He was buried... He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures... and He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time..."
(1 Corinthians 15:3-6)
HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GOD
"Jesus said, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me’” (John 14:6)
God has closed the gap between us and Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place, taking the penalty for our sins.
It is not enough to simply know these Truths...
TRUTH 4
Each of us must personally accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. Only then can we truly experience God's love and His plan for our lives.
WE MUST RECEIVE CHRIST
"But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." (John 1:12)
WE RECEIVE CHRIST
THROUGH FAITH
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
When we receive Christ we experience a new brith.
WE RECEIVE CHRIST BY PERSONAL INVITATION
Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20, ESV)
Which circle would you say best represents your life?
SELF DIRECTED LIFE
You are in charge of your life, with no input or guidance from Jesus. People living this way have not accepted Jesus into their lives and remain separated from God, still carrying the guilt of their sin.
CHIRST DIRECTED LIFE
Jesus is in charge of your life, and you are following Him as Lord. Those who live this way have welcomed Jesus into their hearts, received forgiveness, and live in the experience of God's love.
YOU CAN RECEIVE CHRIST RIGHT NOW BY FAITH THROUGH PRAYER
Prayer is simply speaking with God. He already knows your heart and cares more about your sincerity than the exact words you use.
Here is a suggested prayer. If it reflects the desire of your heart, you can pray it now, and Christ will come into your life as He has promised.
